WOMAN WITH LEMONS - A BIBLICAL THEME

The woman holds her lemons like The Madonna in a Biblical Art Theme who protects her child in her arms. Behind her a very warm desert landscape with snakes like a hell scenario. She sits inside a tent with her head facing a colder place with straight back of great pride on her throne with total control over her role. Costumed half of the body with a corset and silicon breast, and the other half covered with a holy sarong.

The dramaturgy of the Bible have been an inspiration for painters through  Art history.

My painting " WOMAN WITH LEMONS " is full of religious symbolism and biblical references. I use my interpretation of the role the female gender has in the Bible. The female gender colored either as a holy person or the whore, good or evil, without any shades and unbalanced. I have chosen to dramatize this reality by dividing the woman into two halves in the picture.

My Madonna with the Child references from The Biblical Art History is clear, but I have exchanged the child with lemons. The lemons symbolize the forbidden fruit from the three of the knowledge of good and evil. Normally the fruit that Eve and Adam ate is represented with an apple, but I have chosen the lemon because I think the fruit is closer to the fruit of the Middle East, the cradle of Christianity.

The face of the woman is painted with a blue tone facing a colder place, maybe paradise. In that case the staging represents both Paradise and Hell. The two worlds beside earthly life, but It can also be Limbo.

The yellow shadow under the lemons is shaped like a dead skull, because she  is not holding a child, that represents eternal life and the generation shift, but instead five lemons that represents the amount of wisdom and knowledge she have acquired of good and evil .

The picture represents therefore life that could have been, and the eternal death that have been chosen caused by wisdom.

The picture was exhibited at Nydalen ArtSchool in Desember 2012.
